Instructions for Colonprep

Please note the instructions outlined below depend on whether your appointment is booked for the morning or the afternoon.

YOU WILL NEED TO STOP YOUR BLOOD THINNING MEDICATION.  PLEASE DISCUSS THIS WITH YOUR DOCTOR.

The success of your examination depends on the bowel being as clear as possible, otherwise the examination may need to be postponed and the preparation repeated.

THIS KIT CONTAINS:

1. ColonLYTELY 68.58g sachet

2. PICOLAX 20g sachets

These solutions are designed to clean out your bowel and therefore will give you diarrhoea for a few hours.  The preparation may cause multiple bowel movements.  It usually induces frequent, loose bowel movements within two to three hours of taking the first dose, however individual responses to laxatives vary.  Please remain within easy reach of toilet facilities.  Sometimes a feeling of bloating and/or nausea may occur after the first few glasses of the solution, however this will pass when the bowel movements begin.  You should be passing clear fluid by the end of this time.

Two days before the Examination

You may have any of the following:  white bread, cornflakes, eggs, jellies, tea & coffee, boiled potatoes, pumpkin, carrots, marrow, squash, chokos, ripe bananas, peaches, pears, stewed apples (no skins), poultry & fish, milk and butter.
