Quick answers

When will I hear about my results?

We call you once your pathology report reaches our rooms and book a follow-up at the same time.

Who is my main point of contact?

Dr John Gault, from consultation through surgery and follow-up. Our nursing and reception team supports you between visits.

How do I reach you between visits?

Call our rooms on 07 5539 3999 during clinic hours.

What happens after surgery?

A structured post-operative review with Dr Gault, then a follow-up schedule set out in plain language before you leave.

Our communication and follow-up standards

These are the specific commitments we hold ourselves to. If any of them slips, we want to hear about it.

Results

We call you with biopsy and pathology results once the report reaches our rooms, and book a follow-up appointment at the same time to explain them in person or by telehealth.

If a result requires urgent discussion, you will hear from us sooner. If additional laboratory testing is needed, we tell you before the deadline passes.

Follow-up booked in the same call

You do not leave a results conversation without a next appointment on the calendar. We book the follow-up review while we have you on the line, so you know when you will next hear from us.

Reply

Non-urgent phone and email messages received during clinic hours are returned. Our nursing team triages clinical questions and, where needed, brings them to Dr Gault.

Post-op review

Your first post-operative appointment is booked before you leave hospital. Dr Gault reviews your wound and recovery, walks you through your final pathology if applicable, and sets out the schedule for further follow-up.

Clear pathway if you are worried

During clinic hours, call our rooms and speak with our nursing team. Out of hours, if you have recently had surgery, contact the hospital where you were admitted. For medical emergencies at any time, call 000 or go to your nearest emergency department.

A written summary of your plan

After key appointments, we send a copy of your plan and next steps to your referring GP so everyone involved in your care is working from the same page. You can request your own copy at any time.

Timeframes reflect our target standards during normal clinic operation. Individual circumstances, laboratory turnaround, and clinical complexity can shift what is achievable in a specific case. We tell you as soon as we know a timeframe will not be met.
Continuity of care

One surgeon, one story

Dr John Gault is the same surgeon you see from your first consultation through your operation and long-term follow-up. Nothing about your care is handed off between rotating registrars or shared between multiple partners in a group.

The practical result is that you are not re-explaining yourself at every visit. Decisions made at diagnosis carry through to theatre and into recovery, with one clinician who knows the whole picture, including breast, melanoma, thyroid and general surgical concerns that may sit alongside each other.

Continuity is also how we notice things that matter. A subtle change between a six-week and a six-month review is easier to catch when the same surgeon has seen you at both.

Nurse-supported care

Support alongside your surgeon

Alongside Dr Gault, our nursing team is part of how the practice runs. Their role is to make sure the practical side of your care, information, preparation, recovery, questions between visits, is looked after so nothing gets lost between appointments.

Between-visit questions about wound care, medication, appointment timing or what to expect next are handled by our nursing team during clinic hours, with clinical questions escalated to Dr Gault where needed.

For breast cancer patients specifically, nurse support is a core part of the pathway from diagnosis through surgery and into follow-up.

After your surgery

What structured follow-up looks like

Follow-up is not something you have to chase. Before you leave hospital, we set out what happens next and put dates on the calendar.

  1. Before you leave hospital

Discharge instructions in writing, contact details for the rooms, and your first post-operative appointment booked in.

  2. First post-op review

Dr Gault checks your wound and recovery, discusses your final pathology if applicable, and confirms the follow-up plan.

  3. Longer-term surveillance

For breast cancer patients, follow-up is coordinated with your oncologist, GP and other specialists over several years. Schedule and duration depend on your diagnosis and treatment plan.

  4. Ongoing access

Between scheduled reviews, you can reach our rooms with questions. Continuity of one surgeon means concerns raised later in follow-up are heard by the person who did your surgery.

Communication and follow-up: your questions

How soon will I get my biopsy or pathology results?

We call you with biopsy and pathology results once the report reaches our rooms, and book a follow-up appointment at the same time to explain them in person or by telehealth.

If a result requires urgent discussion, you will hear from us sooner. Timeframes may vary if the pathology laboratory requires additional testing.

Who is my main point of contact at Gault Surgery?

Dr John Gault is the same surgeon you see from your first consultation through your operation and long-term follow-up. Our nursing and reception team support you between visits with questions about preparation, recovery, appointments and paperwork.

What if I have a question between appointments?

Call our rooms on 07 5539 3999 during clinic hours. Non-urgent questions can also be sent by email. Our nursing team triages clinical questions and, where needed, brings them to Dr Gault.

Do I see the same surgeon every time?

Yes. Dr Gault personally sees you at diagnosis, plans and performs your surgery, and reviews you afterwards. Continuity with one surgeon is a core part of how the practice is organised.

What happens at my post-operative review?

Your first post-op review is scheduled depending on the procedure. Dr Gault reviews your wound and recovery, explains your final pathology if applicable, and sets out the schedule for any further follow-up or surveillance.

How long will I be followed up after breast cancer surgery?

Follow-up after breast cancer surgery is structured over several years and coordinated with your oncologist, GP and any other specialists involved in your care. The schedule and duration depend on your diagnosis and treatment plan and are explained during your post-operative visit.

What if I live out of area, can we do telehealth?

Yes. Telehealth is offered for suitable appointments, including results discussions and some follow-up reviews. In-person visits remain part of surgical planning and post-operative wound checks. Contact our rooms to arrange a telehealth appointment.

What should I do out of hours if I am worried after surgery?

If your concern is urgent and you have recently had surgery, contact the hospital where your surgery was performed (Pindara Private Hospital for private admissions). For medical emergencies at any time, call 000 or go to your nearest emergency department.

Ready to talk to us?

Request a consultation, or call our rooms directly. Whatever brings you here, you will be
talking to the same surgeon from first visit onwards.
